HIV/AIDS Prevention & Support Volunteering in Zimbabwe
The HIV/AIDS Prevention & Support Volunteering in Zimbabwe project aims to provide sexual and reproductive health education to youth in the Victoria Falls region. HIV prevalence rate in Victoria Falls is 25% with a total population of close to 35,000 people; most of which are children. HIV continues to increase among young people but is stagnant or at least decreasing among the adult population. These children are living in abject poverty and are in dire need of support. For those volunteers who truly want to extend a compassionate hand to children, this is your program.
Volunteers will work in the local hospital assessing HIV patients for opportunistic infections, capturing data, distributing Anti Retro Viral Treatment to patients, following up on treatment defaulters, and other clinical activities.
Volunteers will also engage in social activities working directly with children and youth in the community. The goal here is to understand challenges related to the key drivers of HIV infection from a community perspective. Volunteers will facilitate sexual and reproductive health education for teens and young adults focusing on prevention methods. This a rare opportunity that combines both a clinical and social approach to HIV management.

Criminal Record Check
GOAT Volunteers requires a criminal record (background) check for all projects working with children. Inquire with your local police department to see if they offer this service (many do for free or a small fee). U.S. citizens can visit the U.S. Department of State website for additional information.
The criminal record check must be submitted to GOAT Volunteers after the prospective volunteer’s application is accepted and at least 30 days prior to the project start date.
