After School Volunteering in South Africa
After school programs have always been a way to continue the learning experience, but in a more open and exciting environment. Getting kids out of the classroom and on to the field of play or studio allows them to explore their passions for sports and artistic expression. This program focuses on giving kids who don’t have organized opportunities to pursues these activities, the chance to do so.
During the school day, the children children are not exposed to arts or sports. After school, children typically play in the village without adult supervision. This is the ideal time to introduce children to sports, games, and other artistic activities.
The After School Volunteering in South Africa project aims to capitalize on this free time. As is the case in many African countries, boys are excited about soccer and girls it’s netball and soccer. Volunteers are encouraged to introduce other sports like karate, dance, gymnastics, and more that will open the kids up to healthy lifestyles. These activities will be organised for primary school children and will teach them important life-skills such us teamwork, sportsmanship, and working towards goals.
In addition to sports, the after-school program also hopes to expose the children to art. Drawing, painting, sculpting, music, or any other artistic skills you can reach will open up a whole new world of creativity. Materials are limited due to cost and availability, so finding ways to be creative with local materials is crucial.
As a relatively new town with limited resources, any additional support makes a huge difference in the lives and education of the children.
You can make an even greater impact at your project by donating school supplies (pens, pencils, notebooks, etc.), sports equipment (soccer balls, netballs, jerseys, shoes, etc.) or fundraising to help finance the purchase of new equipment & supplies. Visit the Contact Us page to inquire for more details.
