Women’s Empowerment Volunteer Teaching in Nepal
Women aren’t always afforded the same opportunities as men when it comes to education in many developing nations. Whether due to family requirements, marriage, or lack of resources, many women in Nepal lack a formal education. The Women’s Empowerment Volunteer Teaching in Nepal project gives women the opportunity to obtain the education they may have missed out on when they were children and teens.
This project is an amazing opportunity for female volunteers to help empower the women of Nepal by teaching them to read and write as well as more advanced subjects. Many of the women in the program had to either drop out of primary or high school or were never able to attend school at all. Volunteers will work with women ranging from young adults to grandmothers and empower them through education.
Room & Board
Accommodations for the Women’s Empowerment Volunteer Teaching in Nepal project are typically with a host family.
- Shared room (same-sex) in a host family house (private if no other volunteers)
- 2 meals per day plus coffee & bread in the morning & snacks in the afternoon
- Host family houses typically only have squat toilets — this is very common in Asia and may take some getting used to for those unaccustomed to these types of facilities
- WiFi is not available, so volunteers are encouraged to purchase local SIM cards for their unlocked phones

Special Considerations | Women’s Empowerment Volunteer Teaching in Nepal
For special considerations regarding projects in Nepal, please visit the Nepal page.
As Nepal is a very conservative country and many of the women attending the school might feel a bit tentative around male volunteers, the program is only available to female volunteers.
Professional teaching experience is not required, but a familiarity with basic teaching methods gained from volunteering, education, or other experiences is helpful. Ideally, the volunteers on this project would possess some experience in a teaching capacity.
